STOCKHOLM
After breakfast, your train journey in Sweden begins. Departure for the town of Mora. The journey takes 4 hours: you’ll pass through rolling valleys dotted with small lakes, glide through the landscapes of Bergslagen shaped by the mining industry that flourished in the 18th century. The province of Värmland is a true haven of natural beauty.
Upon arrival in Mora, convenient check-in at the centrally located hotel.
ÖSTERSUND
Spend your morning visiting Zorngården (entrance included), a very authentic traditional home showcasing Swedish traditional interiors that belonged to a painter, and the Vasaloppet Museum (Vasaloppet is the oldest and largest cross-country ski race in the world). You can also take a stroll along the beautiful Lake Siljan. All of this provides a great introduction to local Swedish life.
In the afternoon, your journey on a special Swedish train begins: onboard the Inlandsbanan, you head North. Here, you get close to the wild nature by traveling through forests home to bears. In the evening, you arrive in Östersund, the residential city of Jämtland County.
ÖSTERSUND
Built on the shores of the Lake Storsjön, Östersund with its 45,000 inhabitants lies almost on the same latitude as Reykjavík. It is both a university town and the gateway to southern Lapland.
At Östersund, stroll through the Jamtli History Land heritage museum and meet people and places from days gone by (entrance included). Or perhaps you’d like to explore the town on your own? Bicycles can be rented at the tourist office, with a map of cycling routes. Enjoy your bike ride!
ARVIDSJAUR
After a hearty breakfast, depart at 7:15 a.m. by a special Swedish railcar train to southern Lapland, with many stops along the way. At Vilhelmina, a lunch break is scheduled at the well-known local restaurant, Bergmans Fisk.
Your special train continues through the south of Lapland. At Sorsele, a short historical stop at the Inlandsbanan museum will show you how the railway was built more than 100 years ago. Keep your eyes wide open along the railway line: moose and reindeer graze not far from the tracks!
GÄLLIVARE
Arvidsjaur offers a wide variety of activities, from fishing to canoe-kayaking, or a visit to the Sami village of Lappstaden.
On the way to Gällivare, you cross the World Heritage Site of Lapland. After arrival, we recommend a walk in the evening summer light. The midnight sun shines for about one month, from early June to early July.
